What in the World are Honey Sticks?

Honey sticks are a new-fangled way to enjoy the most ancient of sweets!

I’m not sure who first came up with the concept of a honey stick, but it’s really a pretty ingenious idea. And like many of the best ideas, it’s also very simple: just put some honey in a straw and seal it at both ends. That’s it!

More Nutritious Than Candy…

This treat offers more than just a pretty taste. Apart from the wonderful flavor of honey, it’s a more nutritional treat than a piece of candy.

Yes, the candy and the honey are both primarily sugar (although different types of sugar, and some say the sugar in honey is more healthier), but honey has some nutritional value that just can’t be matched by the sugar in candy (unless it’s honey candy!).

Sweet Treats Really Aren’t About Nutrition, Are They?

Let’s be honest: if we’re talking about a sweet treat to eat, we aren’t really all that concerned about the nutritional value of the treat, are we?

It’s all about flavor. Sometimes called honey stix, you can buy this treat in just about any flavor you can imagine:

  • lemon
  • cinnamon
  • caramel
  • amaretto
  • apple
  • blueberry
  • cherry
  • licorice
  • peppermint
  • raspberry
  • and on and on

Oh, and you can also get them flavored au naturale … you know, like honey. I guess it’d be simpler just to say unflavored, wouldn’t it!

(And I think maybe unflavored is the best flavor, if I might be permitted to sneak in a personal opinion.)

Store-Bought or Homemade

Although you can purchase honey sticks, you can also make your own if you’d like.

It’s as simple as using a plastic syringe to inject the honey into a straw, and sealing the ends of the straw with a heat-sealing device (seal one end before injecting the honey, of course!)

If you like honey in your tea, here’s a great way to use a honey stick: choose your favorite flavor, snip off the ends of the straw, stir your tea with the straw as the honey oozes into the tea, and then drink your tea with the straw.

Functional, flavorful, and efficient!
