A Bit About Louisiana Bees and Louisiana Beekeeping…

Winters are normally mild throughout most of Louisiana, and most of the state receives abundant rainfall. According to recent USDA statistics, Louisiana honey bee colonies produced an average surplus of about 80 pounds of honey per colony, ranking Louisiana 10th in honey production among the 50 states.

Louisiana honey plants include tupelo, horsemint, willow, clover, locust, and sumac, among many others.

Africanized honey bees have been reported throughout much of Louisiana. Africanized bees that have taken up residence in a structure makes bee removal more challenging, and more necessary.
