Manuka Honey For Stomach Ulcers

A stomach ulcer treatment using Manuka honey can be among the most effective of natural remedies for stomach ulcers. The reason has to do with the root cause of most stomach ulcers.

Not so long ago it was thought that stomach ulcers (also called peptic ulcers) were mostly caused by lifestyle choices. Eating the wrong kinds of food, eating too much spicy food, enduring a stressful lifestyle routine — all were thought to be causes of stomach ulcers.

But now we know otherwise.

Because medical science has learned that most stomach ulcers are actually caused by a bacterial infection. In fact, most stomach ulcers are caused by one particularly nasty little bacterium called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Though there are other causes of stomach ulcers such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, more often than not, Helicobacter pylori is the cause of an ulcer.

Stomach Ulcer Treatment with Honey

So researchers consider it likely that the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of honey are also factors. And there are probably other ways that honey works to inhibit ulcers that we simply aren’t aware of yet.

It’s important that the honey be taken on bread (or the equivalent), and not alone. If swallowed by itself, much of the honey will be absorbed into the bloodstream before reaching the stomach. Spreading it on the bread allows it to reach the stomach in concentrated form.

Obviously, do not use honey to replace any medication without consulting your doctor.

No Side Effects to Worry About!

Though not a ‘miracle cure’, manuka honey has been found by many to be very effective as a natural treatment for ulcers. For some, it’s even been more effective than the drugs they had previously used to treat their stomach ulcer. And one thing’s for certain: There aren’t any nasty side effects to worry about!

NOTE: It’s important that honey not be given to infants under 1 year of age due to concerns about infant botulism.
